Members of the Barnstaple Memory Café, which supports people living with dementia, celebrated National Memory Day with poetry from their schooldays. Richard Westcott, a retired GP from South Molton and volunteer for the National Memory Day project, read and even sang poetry ranging from Wordsworth’s ‘I wandered Lonely as a Cloud, to The Tyger by William Blake and Edward Lear’s The Owl and the Pussycat. Café members joined in with some of the poems and sang and clapped to AA Milne’s Buckingham Palace. “Hearing those poems reminded me of my days at school when we learnt them by heart. He read them so well it took me back to happy times” said a Café member.
